Curriculum
We base our curriculum planning for all ages, 6 weeks through Kindergarten, around the PA State Early Learning Standards. The standards promote emotional, social, language, reading, math, science, art and imaginative play skills. Our students are taught using a hands-on approach and in a small group setting. We believe that children learn through play and active interaction with the environment.
Our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Classes use the Starfall Curriculum to teach literacy and language arts. They are both implementing the Reading A-Z program to equip students for the skills needed in for higher education.
Teachers use themes to enhance learning centers and also provide whole class activities as well. Teachers realize that each child learns at their own pace, so observation is key to ensuring that each child is successful.
We conduct formal evaluations of our students three times per year and you will be given an opportunity to have a conference with your child’s teacher. We are also available to discuss progress on an informal daily basis to help your child reach their goals.
Gardening and Environmental Studies are a unique addition to our daily curriculum. Our students regularly take hikes with our environmental studies teacher in which they learn about the ecosystems present on our beautiful, 240 acre campus. In addition, the children join our Farm Manager in our ½ acre garden where they sow seeds, pull weeds and harvest the crops grown there. Our younger children participate in these activities in our Children’s Garden, located just outside of the Videon Building. All of our students go on regular walks to our historic Barn to visit the animals, especially our Alpacas!
