Child Care Careers
Salary Range: $16-$24 per hour
Primary Role: To further the mission of Garrett Williamson by establishing and maintaining a developmentally appropriate early childhood classroom and fostering a supportive and positive learning environment for children.
Essential Job Functions:
- Works closely with co-workers to build a cohesive team Helps students to communicate effectively
- Develops individualized lesson plans based on the Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards based on students interests and developmental needs
- Documents observations regarding children’s development and completes associated assessments and checklists throughout the year
- Maintains on-going, clear and positive written and verbal communication with staff, students, parents, guardians and all other contacts associated with Garrett’s Way
- Ensures students are properly supervised and engaged at all times, including transition periods while maintaining state regulated ratios
- Plays and interacts with children throughout the day
- Administers basic first aid
- Changes diapers and assists children with toileting needs
- Creates a nurturing and safe environment for all children including meeting their social, emotional and physical needs.
- Displays professionalism and maintains confidentiality when interacting with staff and families
- Maintains classroom cleanliness according to health and safety regulations
- Follows all health and safety recommendations from the CDC and DHS during the COVID-19 crisis.
Required Skills, Experience and Professional Development:
- All education and experience requirements as outlined by the Department of Human Services and Keystone Stars Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to respond well to unusual or crisis situations
Other Job Duties:
- Attends monthly staff meetings and three yearly staff in-services

Summer camp Seasonal Positions
Primary Role: To further the mission of Garrett Williamson by supervising campers and non-lifeguard certified staff in the pool area and will assist in the management of the physical operation of the pool facility and equipment.
Immediate Supervisor: Summer Camp Aquatics Program Coordinator
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervise and guard all pool activities, and provide rescue support when necessary
- Communicate and enforce pool safety rules to staff and campers
- Assess swimmers’ abilities and determine appropriate pool sections for each camper to swim safely Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of persons in the event of an emergency
- Monitor changing rooms and oversee transition periods at the pool
- Conduct daily check of pool area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair, promptly reporting any concerns to the Aquatics Program Coordinator
- Alert the Aquatics Program Coordinator to any potential hazards affecting the pool or safety of swimmers
- Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with camp staff, campers, parents and all other contacts associated with Camp Garrett
- Create and maintain positive business and working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, families, campers, and the community, promoting a collaborative and supportive environment
Qualifications, Skills, and Ability:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Current certification in lifeguard training, first aid, and CPR
- Must possess and demonstrate strong swimming skills
- Experience working with children and young adults
- Desire and ability to work with children outdoors in varied conditions

Primary Role: To further the mission of Garrett Williamson through the supervision and active care of campers at all times. The Senior Counselor will be responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out all camp activities and will serve as a positive and strong role model for all campers and Junior Summer Camp Counselors.
Immediate Supervisor: Camp Director
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervise campers at all times, including transition periods and engage campers in activities throughout the day
- In collaboration with your Junior Summer Camp Counselor, design and lead age-appropriate activity plans for schedule blocks that are not hosted by a Program Coordinator
- In collaboration with your Junior Summer Camp Counselor, teach campers the tools to communicate effectively, build relationships and respect diversity
- With your Junior Summer Camp Counselor, educate campers on identifying, resolving and avoiding conflict
- Serve as a mentor for your Junior Summer Camp Counselor by providing guidance, support, encouragement and foster their professional growth by modeling effective leadership
- Maintain accurate attendance records, first aid logs (as needed), and communicate openly with camper parents/guardians
- Administer basic first aid and provide emotional support when necessary
- Demonstrate and enforce all safety protocols and guidelines
- Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with camp staff, campers, parents and all other contacts associated with Camp Garrett
- Create and maintain positive business and working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, families, campers, and the community, promoting a collaborative and supportive environment

Primary Role: To ensure the health and safety of campers and staff by providing first aid, managing medications and promoting wellness while furthering the mission of Garrett Williamson.
Immediate Supervisor: Camp Director
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide care and First Aid to campers and staff in need, and respond to medical emergencies
- Oversee and maintain high standards of health and hygiene by educating campers and staff on importance of hygiene practices such as handwashing and personal care to prevent illness and promote overall well-being
- Facilitate open communication with families about campers’ health and well-being as directed
- Support staff with first aid related questions or issues for campers
- Review all camper health forms and alert counselors of campers’ special needs, allergies and pertinent medical information
- Oversee the administration, distribution and secure storage of prescription and over-the-counter medications to campers as required
- Be available, as needed, to support groups of campers and supervise activities that require additional safety measures and adult oversight
- Manage and maintain medical supplies in the nurse’s office and med-kits, coordinate replenishing supply orders as needed
- Establish allergy protocols with kitchen staff and ensure that they are clearly communicated to all participants
- Supervise lunch periods to ensure campers and staff are not exposed to allergens
- Serve as a resource for staff who need support with conflict resolution, behavior management or input regarding games and activities
- Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with camp staff, campers, parents and all other contacts associated with Camp Garrett
- Create and maintain positive business and working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, families, campers, and the community, promoting a collaborative and supportive environment
Qualifications, Skills, and Ability:
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR
- 1 or more years’ experience responding to pediatric emergencies (preferred)
- Desire and ability to work with children outdoors
- License in PA as a registered Nurse OR Licensed Practical Nurse OR Emergency Medical Technician (preferred)
