Aquatics Coordinator Job Description
Primary Role: To further the mission of Camp Garrett by supervising lifeguards and campers and ensuring a safe environment in connection with the camp’s water activities. The successful Summer Camp Aquatics Supervisor will design and implement pool curriculum and best practices, and work with the Camp Director and Grounds Director to manage the physical operation of the pool facilities and equipment.
Immediate Supervisor: Camp Director
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervise and guard all pool activities, and provide rescue support when necessary
- Assess swimmers’ abilities based on pre-made criteria in order to allow swimmers into different sections of the pool
- Maintain active surveillance of persons in and near the pool area
- Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of persons in an emergency
- Communicate and enforce pool safety rules
- Ability to demonstrate strong swimming skills
- Monitor changing rooms and oversee transition periods at the pool
- Conduct periodic observations of lifeguards and prepare reports for the Camp Director
- Conduct daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair
- Identify and implement appropriate response to hazards affecting the pool or safety of swimmers
- Ensure a successful Before Camp Care program by greeting parents and campers, taking accurate attendance, maintaining proper camper:staff ratios, and providing safe and fun activities
- Create and maintain positive business and working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, families, campers, and the community
Qualifications, Skills, and Ability:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Current certification in lifeguard training, first aid, and CPR
- Minimum of two years of supervisory experience
- Experience with children and young adults
- Desire and ability to work with children outdoors
Other Job Duties:
- Participate in camp activities, programs and meetings, including staff meetings
- Assist in general maintenance and upkeep of Camp and shared facilities
- All other duties as assigned
Physical/Cognitive Requirements of the Essential Job Functions: This position requires the ability to perform immediate and appropriate rescues to any person in need at or in the pool. This position also requires the ability to listen to others, observe others’ actions and take corrective actions when necessary, read text and information; comprehend instructions and manuals. It also requires the physical ability to move about the camp property in various environmental conditions.
