Leader in Training Coordinator Job Description
Primary Role: To further the mission of Camp Garrett through designing and delivering program activities and events for Leaders In Training. The successful LIT Summer Camp Program Coordinator will create curriculum and lead a program to teach qualifying campers leadership skills, collaboration, and communication through camp and community involvement.
Immediate Supervisor: Camp Director
Essential Job Functions:
- Create and lead activities meant to introduce LITs to leadership roles and teamwork, including weekly service projects
- Engage LITs in projects and programs where they will host choice activity blocks for younger campers and assist with the delivery of Wacky Wednesday events
- Schedule LITs to regularly assist other counselors in their groups and encourage LITs to take on more leadership roles in their assigned groups
- Assist the Camp Director in leading the bi-weekly LIT field trip by teaching and enforcing all safety protocols and procedures, and by ensuring all LITs are supervised and engaged
- Supervise campers at all times throughout the day, including transition periods and group-out blocks, and engage campers in appropriate activities throughout the day
- Administer basic first aid and provide emotional support when necessary
- Enforce safety protocols and guidelines
- Educate campers and your Senior Counselor on identifying, resolving, and avoiding conflict
- Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with camp staff, campers, parents and all other contacts associated with Camp Garrett
- Create and maintain positive business and working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, families, campers, and the community
Qualifications, Skills, and Ability:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Experience teaching or leading activities for children and/or young adults
- Desire and ability to work with children outdoors
Other Job Duties:
- Participate in camp activities, programs and meetings, including staff meetings
- Assist in general maintenance and upkeep of Camp and shared facilities
- Fulfill the role of Team Leader by being a resource for staff who need support with conflict resolution, behavior management, or ideas for games and activities—as assigned
- All other duties as assigned
Physical/Cognitive Requirements of the Essential Job Functions: This position requires the ability to listen to others, observe others’ actions and take corrective actions when necessary, read text and information; comprehend instructions and manuals. It also requires the physical ability to move about the camp property in various environmental conditions.
