Kitchen Assistant Job Description

Primary Role:  To further the mission of Camp Garrett by assisting the Summer Camp Food Service Manager in the daily operations of the food service program. The successful Summer Camp Food Service Assistant will ensure the safety and cleanliness of the facilities, and will aid in the daily operations of the food service program.

 Immediate Supervisor:  Food Service Manager

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensure all dishes, utensils, supplies, and kitchen equipment is washed, sanitized, and dried after every use
  • Assist the Food Service Manager in preparing, assembling, and ensuring the sanitation of ingredients for food preparation
  • Assist with serving food to campers and staff ensuring each meal is offered with all required components, and enforcing safety and cleanliness protocols
  • Maintain records for the Summer Food Service Program including collecting lunch count slips and documenting meals served and daily temperature checks
  • Assist in stocking and organizing food deliveries, and identify and report any errors with deliveries or orders to the Summer Camp Food Service Manager
  • Create and maintain positive business and working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, families, campers, and the community

Qualifications, Skills, and Ability:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Experience working in a kitchen environment
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors

Other Job Duties:

  • Participate in camp activities, programs and meetings, including staff meetings
  • Assist in general maintenance and upkeep of Camp and shared facilities
  • All other duties as assigned

 

Physical/Cognitive Requirements of the Essential Job Functions: This position requires the ability to lift 40 pounds, listen to others, observe others’ actions and take corrective actions when necessary, read text and information; comprehend instructions and manuals. It also requires the physical ability to move about the camp property in various environmental conditions.
